With International Women’s Month fast approaching, Green Truck is thrilled to have the opportunity to celebrate a driving force in what makes us one of Maine’s top cannabis facilities; our female employees, which make up ⅓ of our workforce here at Green Truck and are a significant proponent to our success.
We’ve always been proud supporters of women in the cannabis industry and beyond – and what better way to celebrate and honor the women who came before us than focusing on what matters the most?
This month, Green Truck is putting the spotlight on women’s mental and physical health.
The effects of cannabis and its potential health benefits are well-recorded, and women’s health is no exception. From hormonal issues to depression, endometriosis, and breast cancer, Read ahead for lots of useful tips and ideas on improving your overall well-being and celebrating taking care of yourself during Women’s History Month.
MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT:
Mental health issues are on the rise, and women are experiencing stress, anxiety, and depression in droves in recent years. It’s been well-reported that cannabis is frequently used to help individuals cope with mood swings, bouts of intense sadness, and anxiety, as well as chronic stress.
Some of our in-house strains, such as Banoreoz, MAC, and the Strain of the Month, Ursula, have calming cerebral effects, potentially useful in treating depression, panic attacks, and bipolar disorder. We suggest pairing these strains with a feel-good activity, such as walking, journaling, or time with loved ones, for optimal effects.
The dominant terpenes found in each – Limonene and Caryophyllene – contain uplifting, mentally stimulating, and physically relieving properties, ideal for overall mental health support and a solid mood boost.
CHRONIC PAIN:
Chronic pain can have a significant impact on the ability to function and quality of life. According to the International Association for the Study of Pain, chronic pain affects a higher proportion of women than men around the world; however, women are less likely to receive treatment. Research has shown that women generally experience more recurrent pain, more severe pain and longer-lasting pain than men.
This does not include pain associated with menstrual cycles, endometriosis, and menopause that most women are experiencing on a routine basis, to some extent. Women are often looking for more holistic, natural relief from a variety of ailments that cause all degrees of discomfort.
Many of our patients find relief from sedating, heavy-hitting strains that help them get a complete night’s sleep.
Green Truck strains Divine Storm, Tagalongz and Cookies N Kush have strong, oftentimes sedating effects that can be helpful in coping with chronic pain and getting a restful night’s sleep. These strains also contain the terpene Myrcene, which offers relaxing, heavy pain relief and sometimes sleepy effects as well.
Abby’s Tip: A 1:1 500mg THC | 500mg CBD salve works within seconds and can be applied right to the abdominal area for cramping and endometriosis pain. They are available in Unscented and Vanilla, Lavender and Bergamot scents.
We frequently recommend one of the varieties of salves and balms at Green Truck – some contain CBD only, and others contain a ratio of CBD and THC for an added entourage effect. All of them contain a specific blend that helps to target pain in the user and can be applied as a topical wherever pain relief is needed.
REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH
Abby suggests investing particular time and attention to detail when it comes to female hormonal care, as well as a variety of herbal supplements for heightened benefits. A number of these can be picked up at your local health food retailer and combined with various cannabis products for an added effect:
- Raspberry leaf tea contains Vitamin B6, which binds to Estrogen and other hormones and stabilizes them – this can help with mood swings, cramps, irritability, and bloating/discomfort.
- Motherwort helps regulate menstruation, has anti-inflammatory benefits, and can reduce symptoms associated with menopause.
- Ginger water can offer relief from bloating, cramps, and irregular periods.
Abby’s Tip: Remember to complete monthly self-breast exams to screen for breast cancer – salves can be used to alleviate any breast tenderness. It’s important to stop in with a clinician for a mammogram every 2 years and a pap smear every 3.
It’s easy, in the hustle and bustle of our everyday lives, to forget the importance of our health and wellness.
